The spinel has a long history, initially discovered in Afghanistan around 100 B.C. and reserved for royalty. The ancient Romans had an appreciation for it's value and for centuries the spinel's identity has been confused with rubies.
This particular ring is circa 1960's-70's, made in the brutalist style, a movement that was a reaction against the traditional elegance of jewellery. Designers wanted to embrace raw, unpolished and architectural aesthetics. We see these triangle shapes, with texture, their edges exposed, all designed to elevate this gemstone. The spinel's colour is a burnt orange mixed with a bit of red. The stone is so vibrant, and if you look deeper you can see some natural inclusions, they add character and life to this gemstone. This is a signature ring that will get you noticed
