The Haida come from a group of islands off the North West Coast of Canada. Haida art looks very abstract, but follows clear lines and rules, and usually shows animal designs. These carvings represent cultural stories passed down from each generation. This ring depicts an Orca whale. Orca symbolizes longevity, protection and family. Among the Northwest Coast people, Orca is held in the highest respect and has incredibly close ties to Indigenous Peoples.
